Social media has changed us

Social Media has changed society in a number of ways, for instance the way we view friends has changed drematically. People no longer only class the people they meet in person as a friend, online friends are growing and it sometimes becomes a problem with online users pretending to be someone that they are not. In the Observer at the moment there is an article talking about how two female lesbians campaigner for gay rights are actually two men and a lot of the gay community are unhappy about the deception they caused. This highlights the fact that people are beggining to trust the online world too easily and forgetting about the real world and the real people around us.

Why do people feel the need to have hundreds of friends on Facebook? I don't quite understand this! Maybe it's because I'm of a generation that can remember not having online friends etc. There are so many news articles regarding online friends and deceptions. Have you seen Catfish? It's a film about Facebook and online friendships - worth a watch
